Dance Class Descriptions

First Steps (age 2)
The perfect introduction to dance for your little one. This half-hour class will engage your toddler with songs, music, games and instruments while introducing them to the basics of tap and creative movement. Each dancer will need tap and ballet shoes and comfortable clothing.

Tiny Tots I (ages 3-4)
Beginning level class for 3-4 year olds, incorporating tap and creative movement. This class focuses on the basics of coordination and strength, while learning the classroom essentials of taking turns, sharing and following directions. Tiny Tots will allow your child to use their imagination and express themselves through movement.

Tiny Tots II (ages 4-5)
Beginning level class for 4-5 year olds, incorporating tap and creative movement. This class focuses on the basics of coordination and strength, while enhancing their gross motor skills (skipping, galloping, etc.) Children will use their imaginations and express themselves through movement. This class is a progression of Tiny Tots I. Students must be able to change their shoes on their own.

Pre-Ballet (ages 3.5-5)
This 45-minute class will introduce your child to beginning ballet steps, terminology and musicality. This class is a great way to nurture your child’s love of ballet and it will also enhance their gross motor skills (balancing, hopping, jumping, galloping). Pre-ballet will use your child’s imagination and get their creative minds expressing through movement with music, games, and lots of dancing!

Mini Hip-Hop (ages 4-6)
Beginning level class, ages 4-6. This class will incorporate street-style jazz and technique. Students will work on across the floor and center combinations, while continuing to enhance their gross motor skills.

Tap/Jazz I (approximate ages 5-7)
Beginning level class, ages 5-7, for dancers with a little to some previous dance experience (6 mos.-1yr.). Focuses on coordination and core strength.

Tap/Ballet I (approximate ages 5-7)
Beginning level class, for dancers with a little to some pervious dance experience (6 mos.-1yr). This class incorporates the basics of tap and ballet, and focuses on coordination, balance and core strength.

Tap/Jazz/Ballet II (approximate ages 6-9)
Advanced Beginning level class for 6-9 year olds, for dancers with at least on year previous dance experience. Dancers must have mastered all steps in the Tap/Jazz I or Tap/Ballet I. This class will combine warm-ups, across the floor and center combinations.

All-Star Pom I (approximate ages 5-9)
Competitive Pom Dance Team. By Audition Only. Must also take a corresponding Hip-Hop class.

Jr. Hip-Hop (ages 7-11)
Beginning level class, ages 7-11. This class will incorporate street-style jazz and technique. Dancers must be prepared to be FUNKY!

Jr. Tap I and Jr. Jazz I (approximate ages 7-11)
Beginning/Adv. Beginning level classes, ages 7-11. For dancers with little to some dance experience (approx. 2 yrs). These classes will focus on expanding technique and terminology, will continue to master basic technique while explaining rhythms and patterns. The class level A or B will be determined by the instructor.

Ballet I (ages 6-9)
Beginning level ballet class, ages 5-9. For dancers with little to no dance experience (approx. 1 yr.) Focusing on the basics of ballet, combining barre work, across the floor and center combinations.

Ballet IIA (approximate ages 7-10)
Advanced Beginning level ballet class, ages 7-10 years old. Focusing on basic ballet technique at the barre, across the floor and during center work, as well as feet and jump combinations. Dancers must have mastered criteria from Ballet I.

All-Star Poms II (ages 10 and up)
Competitive Pom Dance Team. By Audition Only. Must also take a corresponding Hip-Hop Class.

Ballet IIB (approximate ages 9-12)
Adv. Beginning ballet class, ages 9 and up. Focusing on basic ballet technique at the barre, across the floor and during center work, as well as feet and jump combinations. Dancers must have mastered criteria from Ballet IIA

Jr. Turns (ages 7-12)
Adv. Beginning class concentrating on turning techniques, also incorporating leaps and jumps. This class is designed for dancers who wish to improve their technique and concentrate on turns and leaps. Dancers must have at least 2 years previous dance experience.

Ballet IIC (approximate ages 9-12)
Intermediate ballet class, ages 9 and up. Focusing on ballet technique at the barre, across the floor and during center work, as well as feet and jump combinations. Dancers must have mastered or currently be enrolled in Ballet IIB to participate in this class.

Jr. Tap II and Jr. Jazz II (approximate ages 8-12)
Advanced Beginning/Intermediate level class, ages 8 and up. Dancers must have at least two years previous dance experience. Must be able to do all criteria in Jr. Tap I/Jr. Jazz I. This class will focus on expanding the dancer’s technique by working both across the floor and doing center combinations. Dancers will be learning combinations to promote fast thinking and multiple styles.

Ballet II/III (ages 10 and up)
Adv. Beginning/Intermediate level class, ages 9 and up. This class will focus on ballet technique at the barre and across the floor, as well as center feet work and combinations. Must meet all criteria or also be enrolled in Ballet IIC. Throughout the year, dancers will work on correct body, arm and feet placement, continue work on jumps and focus on strength, balance and grace.

Ballet III (ages 10 and up)
Intermediate level class, ages 10 and up. This class will concentrate strongly on barre technique, across the floor and center combinations, as well as jumps. The main focus of this class is to build leg and abdominal strength, preparing dancers for advanced turns, leaps and combinations. Dancers must be able to do a solid double pirouette, have mastered all criteria for Ballet II/III and know ballet terminology.

Pointe/Pre-Point (ages 10 and up)
This 45-minute class will concentrate on ankle strength and basic pointe technique. Students must have the teacher/director approval for admittance into this class.

Intermediate Turns (ages 10 and up)
Intermediate/Advanced level class concentrating on turning techniques, also incorporating leaps and jumps. This class is designed for dancers who wish to improve their technique and concentrate on turns and leaps. Dancers must have at least 2 years previous dance experience

Teen Lyrical (ages 10 and up)
Intermediate/Advanced level Lyrical class, ages 10 and up. For dancers with past Lyrical or Ballet experience (at least 3 years). This class will continue to focus on developing proper technique, with an emphasis on center and across the floor combinations. Dancers will work on flexibility for extensions and core strength for balance. Dancers should be able to do double pirouettes and tours.

Teen Tap and Teen Jazz (ages 10 and up)
Advanced Beginning/Intermediate level class, ages 10 and up. Dancers must have at least two years previous dance experience. Must be able to do all criteria in Jr. Tap II/Jr. Jazz II. This class will focus on expanding the dancer’s technique by working both across the floor and doing center combinations. Dancers will be learning combinations to promote fast thinking and multiple styles. Dancers in Teen Jazz B must also be enrolled in a ballet class.

Teen/Adv. Hip-Hop (ages 12 and up
Adv. Beginning/Intermediate class, ages 12 and up. It is recommended that dancers have some dance experience. This class will incorporate street-style jazz and technique. Dancers must be prepared to be funky!

Ballet IV (ages 12 and up)
Advanced level class ballet class. Placement into this class is by instructor/director approval only.

Adv. Jazz (ages 12 and up)
Advanced level jazz class. Placement into this class is by instructor/director approval only. Dancers at this level must also be enrolled in a ballet class.
